Inspired by found objects, textiles and otherworldly images Richmond native Priyah Bhagat is reclaiming the image of the Black Doll that has been woven into the very fabric of society. Affirming Afrodiasporic imagery, she creates distinctive handmade cloth black dolls that invoke themes of Spirituality, femininity, and Humanity. A self-taught figurative doll artist, which began as her just wanting to create a door decoration has spanned over twenty years, evolving into solo shows, showcases, and festival exhibits. Priyah Bhagat continuously journeys inwards to elevate her work, creating each doll with the intention of healing and transformation emerging in the viewer.
